The cross country team ran in the Bob Schul Invitational at Milton Union on Saturday, Aug 24. This invational is one of the largest meets the blazers will see. With the smallest race being the high school girls with 190 runners and the largest being the junior high boys with 370 runners in the race.
The high school boys started the competition with a race containing 320 athletes. Tucker Denlinger led the boys by placing 37th place in a time of 17:54 (new all time best) and received a ribbon. Braydan Lee was next to cross the finish line in a new season best of 19:36. Jackson Johnson was close behind, finishing in 20:02. Bryce Couvutsakis cut about 40 seconds off of his time from Wednesday to finish in 22:36. Merek Mumm finished off the scoring for the boys by running a 26:19.
High school girls also made improvements on their times. Sydney Whalen finished in 25:13, cutting 30 seconds off of her time from Wednesday. Kira Rutan finished 25:42, shaving a few seconds off of her time.
Junior high girls were next to run in a race of 276 finishers. Ioma Alavez was the first blazer to finish in 27th place with a time of 14:18. Ioma received a ribbon. Maddison Loranzan ran an amazing race finishing in 16:59- cutting 2 minutes off of her time from Wednesday!
Wrapping up the morning was Preston Barnes, who represented our junior high boys team. Preston ran a 13:50, which is 40 seconds faster than his race on Wednesday.
We had some elementary runners in the 1 mile and 1/2 mile run who did a great job! We also had a few people participate in the Bob Schul Memorial 5k.
Thank you to everyone who cheered on these hard working athletes! The team’s next race will be at Greenvilles Treaty City Invitational on Saturday Aug 31st. There is no elementary race.
