Blazer HS Track Competes at County Meet and Arcanum Invitational
The Blazer track teams started the week with the County Meet on Tuesday, April 23, 2024. Both the boys and girls teams finished 4th in the meet, scoring 44 and 51 points, respectively. The weather didn’t allow for a lot of great times, but there were a few outstanding performances by the Blazers. Hannah Henderson finished in the top 3 in the county in all of her events and was our lone County Champion with a first place finish in the Long Jump. Hannah also was 3rd in the Open 200 Meter Dash and anchored both the 4 x 200 meter relay and 4 x 400 relay teams to 2nd place finishes.
for the boys, Jody Wintrow also finished in the top 3 in all four of his events with a 3rd place finish in the 4 X 100 Relay, 4 X 400 Relay, and Long Jump. He also finished 2nd in the Open 100 Meter Dash.
On Friday night, April 26th, the Blazers were back on the track at the Arcanum Invitational. The rain returned for the Friday meet, but the Blazers were able to overcome it this time. The Boys finished 3rd out of 11 with 79 points and the girls were 5th out of 12 scoring 63 points.
The Girls were led with strong performances by the distance runners, after a 4th place finish in the 4 x 800 Meter relay team of Taryn Rucci, Jocelyn Osborne, Sydney Whalen, and Judith Denlinger, Whalen and Denlinger took the Track in the 1600 Meter Run. Whalen finished in 6th place with a new Personal Record (PR) of 6:23.2. Denlinger wasn’t far behind with a 7th place finish and a new PR of 6:29.1. Whalen and Denlinger backed up those strong performances with a 1-2 finish in the 3200 Meter Run. Whalen again set a new PR with a time of 14:03.2, 31 seconds faster than her previous PR. Denlinger lowered her PR in the event by 7 seconds to finish at 14:13.0.
Off the Track, Kaitlyn Schweizer finished 6th in the Discus, 7th in the Shot Put, and 8th in the Pole Vault. Hannah Henderson finished in 3rd in the Long Jump.
The boys distance runners Braydan Lee and Tucker Denlinger also had a great day on the track. Both of them set new PRs in both the 1600 and 3200. Denlinger lowered his time in the 3200 by 23 seconds and finished 3rd while Lee lowered his PR by 11 seconds and placed 6th. Tayten Reynolds led the Blazers in scoring with a 1st place finish in the 400 Meter Dash, a 2nd in the Long Jump, and a 3rd in the 4 x 200 along with Matthew Scott, Korbin Sullivan, and Jody Wintrow. Wintrow was the next highest scorer with a 6th place in the long jump, 4th in the 100 meter dash, and a 2nd place finish in the 200 Meter dash.
