Comeback falls short for Softball at Ansonia
The Blazers fought the Tigers (13-4 record) to their final out but dropped a 6 to 10 decision
to Ansonia. The home team Tigers had timely hitting through the first three innings to build a
commanding 8-0 lead. Thatcher and Geyer each contributed 3 hits.
The visiting Blazer got on the score board in the 4 th when Jaleah Coffey singled to lead off.
Morgan House the drew a walk. The fleet footed Coffey then advanced to third and later scored
on a wild pitch. In the 5 th , Miranda Ott got hit by a pitch. Pinch hitter Alyssa Ibarra and Haydn
Davies then had consecutive line drive singles to right field to load the bases. Makayla Turner
then drove in two runs with a hit in the right field gap. Turner later scored on a Coffey ground out.
Meanwhile, the Blazer defense improved with short stop Carley Hamm covering lots of
ground to grab five put outs. She also turned a DP by throwing one runner out at the plate. House
also played a solid second base with two assists and three put outs.
The Blazers keep scratching away at Ansonia’s lead. In the 6 th , Summer Stringfield and
Melling both got on by errors, then Davies shot another RBI single to right to plate Stringfield.
Finally in the seventh inning, Coffey ripped a two bagger up the middle, then later scored on a
House ground out to complete the scoring.
National Trail Fastpitch will hold their Senior Night next Tuesday, April 30 th at 5:00 against
Newton.
