Despite a five run deficit in the firth inning, the Blazer Fastpitch team almost came all the way back, eventually falling to Shawnee 10-9. In a closely matched game, the teams were tied in the 2nd, 3rd, and 5th innings.
Carley Hamm drilled a two-run homer to center field, to put NT on board in the first. Shawnee took the lead in the bottom of the 2nd, but the Blazers came back to tie it when Hamm led off with a double, later scoring on a Miya Ditmer sacrifice fly.
In the top of the fourth, Alyssa Ibarra made it to first on an error, then Jaleah Coffey drove a line drive half way up the wall to put runners on 2nd and 3rd. Pinch runner Macyn Patton scored on a Morgan House ground out while Coffey alertly sped home as well.
The fifth inning proved to be the undoing, as the Arrows plated five runs on four hits with two Trail errors mixed in. Nevertheless, the visiting Blazers kept battling back when House tripled in the 6th and scored on a Ditmer single. Then in their last at bat, Trail plated three runs with Breanna Melling scoring on a Patton sacrifice fly and Miranda Ott scoring on a Coffey single. Coffey then scored as well on a House single.
The Blazers played better defense with eight fielding assists. Catcher Carley Hamm had two diving catches on Shawnee foul pop ups. Summer Stringfield took the loss while walking one and only yielding 3 earned runs.
The Blazer nine play against Cincinnati Christian at home on Monday, April 22.
