National Trail dropped a close game to Bradford, Thursday, 5-2. After The Railroaders got an unearned
run in the first, the host Blazers forged a lead when Summer Stringfield led off with a BB. Then she moved
up to third on a wild pitch and a ground ball out. Carley Hamm followed with a walk as Stringfield scored
on a wild pitch. Hamm then motored to third on a pick off attempt, and on to home on a Bradford error.
After Bradford tied the game in the second, it turned into a pitching/defensive duel. Bradford stranded
runners in the 4th and 5 th , while Trail left runners on in the 2 nd and 5 th . Eventually, Bradford broke through
in the top of the 6 th getting a key 2 out double to finish the scoring.
The Bradford pitchers kept the Blazer batters hitting ground ball after ground ball. Stringfield and Haydn
Davies collected the only two hits. National Trail defense showed signs of vast improvement throwing out
a runner at home and getting several lead runners. Morgan House had an outstanding day a shortstop
with eight fielding chances. As a team, the Blazers had a year high 13 assists. In the end, it was the lack
of hitting that lead to the loss.
