After Monday’s Opening Day loss to Division I Springfield, the Fastpitch
team played a much improved game with Valley View on Tuesday. After giving up three
runs in the top of the first, the Blazers came right back with three runs of their own in the
bottom of the inning. Miya Ditmer walked, then moved up when Morgan House got on by
an error. Carley Hamm lined a single into left scoring Ditmer. When the ball was misplayed,
House scored as well and Hamm ended up on third base. Eventually Hamm scored on a
wild pitch to knot the game at three apiece.
From there, the Blazers played strong defense behind pitcher Summer Stringfield,
including a second inning ending stolen base attempt thwarted. The guest Spartans also
turned up the defense as the home team stranded runners in the 2 nd , 3 rd , and 4 th . In the fifth,
Valley View got a key hit with two out, driving in the eventual winning runs. Unfortunately,
the skies opened and a sudden down pour ended the game before the Blazers got to bat in
the sixth. The final score was 3-5 for Valley View.
