BOYS EARN HARD FOUGHT ROAD WIN

Boys earn hard fought road win
The varsity boys defeated Springfield Northeastern Saturday night, 49-47. A near perfect first quarter on offense and defense saw Trail get out to a 20-3 lead on the Jets. All 5 starters scored on impressive ball movement and shot making. The defense was equally impressive limiting them to 1 bucket and a free throw. The great 1st quarter was matched by an equally poor 2nd quarter as the ball movement and shot making stopped. The defense was equally poor allowing the same Jet shooter to hit 5 three pointers in the quarter. It was the best Jet performance since Joe Namath in Super Bowl 3. The Blazers squandered the entire lead and fell behind by 1 at the half. The second half was back and forth and saw several lead changes. Kellen Laird shook off his shooting slump to drill 2 threes to open the fourth quarter and Logan Smith broke a late tie with a tough drive to the bucket. Nick Brubaker added another 4th quarter shot and played his best game of the season. A late defensive stand forced a missed shot before Tyler Lesh hit a pair of late free throws to seal the win.
Tayden Blevins continued his impressive play, leading the team with 15 points. Laird and Smith added 11 each. Brubaker had 7 points.
Trail hosts Ansonia on Friday.
