Lady Blazers Take Down Eaton

It was a tale of two halves for the Lady Blazers Saturday afternoon as they battled the Eaton Eagles on their home floor. National Trail fought through some early turnovers in the first two quarters and headed into halftime facing a 21-17 deficit. Thankfully, the Lady Blazers came out strong in the third quarter behind its solid defense and better ball protection in the third, grabbing a one-point lead heading into the final frame with a 26-25 score. Key fourth quarter three point buckets from Sophomore Morgan House and Senior Kendyl Johnson pushed the Lady Blazers ahead, but Eaton was equal to the task connecting on three triples of their own in the quarter. Trail found a way to keep possession on offense, work the ball, and find a cutting Josie Stiner for two field goals at the rim to give them the edge with less than one minute to go in regulation. Eaton inbounded the ball with 14 seconds remaining and a two point deficit, but the Lady Blazer defense held strong, forcing the Eagles into a desperation three point attempt at the buzzer from the corner to no avail, propelling Trail back into the win column after dropping its last six consecutive games (6-11 overall, 1-8 in conference play).

The Blazers will return to WOAC action Thursday night to face a pesky Ansonia squad on the road with a JV tip at 6 PM.
