BLAZERS GOLF FINISHES 10TH AT STATE TOURNAMENT

The National Trail boys golf team concluded their season at the state tournament for the third straight year, this time finishing in 10th place - the second best finish a Trail boys golf team has ever had.
This was a historic season for Division 3, as the top 5 teams all shot scores that could have won in recent past. This led to a very top heavy team and individual finish.
The Blazers got off to a slow start on day one for the second consecutive year. Josh Brubaker led the team with a very good 77, Christian Rutan followed with a 90 and Charlie Cummings came in at 92 to put some solid scores on the board. Unfortunately Trail came in at 362 and finished in 12th place.
The second day was a completely different feel. The Blazers carded a lot of pars and a handful of birdies on their first nine holes to make up the entire difference between them and the two teams ahead of them. Making the turn in 10th place gave enough confidence to hold that and cut into 9th place’s lead. Josh Brubaker again led, this time at 74. His 151 total put him in 12th place and narrowly missed All-State. Wyatt Gebhart turned around his tournament by shooting 80, Christian Rutan followed with an improved 86, while Charlie Cummings concluded his Blazer career with another 92 to post a 332 team score - the 7th best score of the day. Gavyn Guthrie also turned around his tournament and posted a 93 - finishing as the 10th best freshman.
The Blazers concluded another historic season by winning the Turtle Creek sectional, Southwest District Tournament, and finished 10th in State. The boys were prepared to play their best at the end of the season and did exactly that! With four of their top five eligible to return next season National Trail should have higher hopes for the future of the boys golf team.
