National Trail Varsity Blazer took Thursday's game in dramatic fashion, with a 9-8 walk-off victory over Newton Local. The game was tied at eight in the bottom of the ninth when Morgan House hit a sacrifice fly, scoring one run.
Taylor Reynolds collected three hits in five at bats in the win. Reynolds tripled in the third inning, singled in the first inning, and singled in the fifth inning.
Blazers got on the board in the bottom of the first inning after Reynolds singled down the right field line, House laid down a sacrifice bunt, and Katie Wyatt laid down a sacrifice bunt, each scoring one run.
We captured the lead, 5-3, in the bottom of the third after Reynolds tripled to center field, and Kinley Marker laid down a sacrifice bunt, each scoring one run.
House started the game. The hurler surrendered 12 hits and eight runs (four earned) over nine innings, striking out none and walking five. Completed all 9 innings.
We accumulated 10 hits in the game. House and Reynolds each drove in two runs for National Trail. Eva Swartsell collected two hits in five at bats. Madison Lawson stole two bases. National Trail Varsity Blazer ran wild on the base paths, amassing five stolen bases and turned one double play.
