The National Trail boys golf team participated in the district tournament today and held on for a 2nd place finish and a spot in the state tournament.
The Blazers got out to a quick lead by shooting 158 on their front nine to build a solid lead heading to the back nine. A couple out of bounds tee shots and a couple missed putts brought the boys back to the field and Botkins capitalized on it to take the district championship. It was more than good enough to qualify for state as they finished four shots ahead of Dayton Christian.
The Blazers were led by senior Kellen Laird who finished as the district individual runner-up by shooting 75! Sophomore Josh Brubaker fired a 79, sophomore Christian Rutan came in with an 85, and sophomore Wyatt Gebhart rounded out the scoring with an 87. Senior Sawyer Davies shot 89 in the non-scoring spot.
Finishing second allows the season to continue and gives them a shot at a state championship in two weeks at Northstar Country Club in Sunbury, Ohio. The three-time defending state champion John F Kennedy high school will be waiting for Trail, along with some of the other top teams in the state like Pettisville high school and Cardinal Mooney high school - along with Botkins.
