On Tuesday April 29th, the Blazer HS boys and girls track teams traveled to Tri-County North to battle the other 4 County Schools in the Preble County Track meet. What started out as a beautiful night for a track meet, quickly turned into a lightning show that postponed the meet to Wednesday April 30th. With the change in date, the County meet created unavoidable conflicts which caused both the boy and girls teams to be short-handed. At the conclusion of the delayed meet, the Girls and Boys teams both finished 4th in the county.
The leading scorer for the Lady Blazers was, again, Sydney Whalen. Sydney won the 3200 meter run, finished second in the 1600 meter run, and was on the fourth place 4x800M relay along with Kira Rutan, Taygen Toothman, and Natalie Blumenstock. The 4x400 relay team of Taryn Rucci, Maria Sorice, Ollie Mason, and Hannah Henderson finished 3rd. Other 4th place finishers were Rae Brodie in the Shot Put with a new Personal Record throw of 30’ 8.75”, Henderson in the Long Jump, Mason in the 100 Hurdles, and the 4x100 Relay team of Annabelle Mackie, Mason, Schweizer, and Hallie Rogers. Rounding out the scoring with 5th place finishes for the Lady Blazers were Kaitlyn Schweizer in the Discus and Pole Vault, Henderson in the 100 and 400 meter dash, and Ollie Mason in the 300 Hurdles.
For the boys team, Tucker Denlinger led the scoring by winning both the 1600 Meter and 3200 Meter runs. Jody Wintrow finished 2nd in the 200 meter dash as did Killian O’Connor in the Shot Put. Jonah Brinkley was the second member of the boys team to finish the 400 Meter Dash below the 53 second mark this season by running a 52.8, finishing third in the event. Josh Brubaker also finished third in the long jump. The night was highlighted by a School Record breaking run in the 4x200 meter relay. Jody Wintrow, Jonah Brinkley, Korbin Sullivan, and Talon Bousman ran a 1:35.0, breaking the previous record of 1:35.11 set last season. The Blazer boys had many other 4th and 5th place finishers to wind up only a half of a point shy of 3rd place in the county.
